[APK] Google Duo Updated To v5.0 With Major Video Quality Improvements And More

Today, Google pushed out a new update to its new Duo video calling app, version 5.0. This version or update not only fixes a few bugs, but also improves on the entire user experience.

If you’re like me, you’re always curious to know exactly what sits behind that mysterious “bug fixes” label. According to Google’s Justin Uberti, the technical lead for Duo, this update brings four main changes:

  • Major video quality improvements
  • Simpler signup flow
  • Seamless camera rotation
  • Fix sound not playing issue

There are some minor video quality improvements we could see, it can be a placebo too. But I believe Uberti when he says that they’re there somewhere. The app’s slightly simpler signup flow and “seamless camera rotation” are minor changes, and the most minor of them is the last. Also the sound bug is also fixed, which was when someone calls you, you couldn't hear them in the first call they need to call you back again.

Also, 9To5Google's Stephen Hall tweeted about a hidden code in the app, something that probably won’t get mentioned is that it looks like Google is creeping ever-closer to finally enabling audio calls in Duo. You can clearly see the reference of audio calls in the code, today’s update brought yet another change: the addition of a “contact action” for audio calls.

On Uberti's twitter, when someone asked if there is an Allo update around, he replied it with a 'yes'. Let's see about that too in the future.

Duo 5.0 should be rolling out already, but if it hasn't already hit your device, we've got an APK you can download.
